Fluorite

'Ganzhou' , Wushan, De'An County, Juijiang, Jiangxi Province, China

40 x 27 x 20mm    miniature - boxed for display.

Octahedral crystals of frosted sea green Fluorite with luscious accents of lilac to grape jelly purple to the terminations and crystal edges.

The fluorite is opaque and has no matrix so can be backlit to appreciate the colour combinations fully. The specimen has been etched out of the matrix as many of these fluorites were when they were discovered in 2004, many still attached to the white matrix. These fluorites are naturally frosted and don't have shiny crystal faces. These have NOT been treated with oil or resin and are completely natural.

The  'De'An mine' is renowned for bringing two types of fluorite to collectors attention. There is this octahedral variety and then several years later a different crystal habit of  grape jelly cubo-octahedral fluorite on the white matrix. Both varieties were available for a short limited run and no new material has been seen for a number of years now.

It has to be noted that ALL fluorite attributed to the 'De'An Mine' is in fact incorrect. The octahedral type comes from approximately 500kms away in the Ganzhou area. The other type does come from the De'An mines in the Wushan area of De'An County.

This specimen is de-accessioned from my personal collection.
