#BTB85:- Quartz Crystals onSpecular Hematite - Ullcoats No.1 Mine, Egremont, Cumbria 368gms. 6.5 x 9.5 x 4.0 cms (small cabinet) $49.00
|
 |
NOTE: AS OF MARCH 2007 THE MINES ARE NOW FLOODED. NEW SPECIMENS ARE UNLIKELY TO BE RETRIEVED FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE. Nice example of gemmy Quartz crystals on a bed of specular, bladed crystals of Hematite over a massive Hematite matrix. The closed Ullcoats #1 Mine was at one time a seperate mine from the working Florence Mine at Egremont. It is believed that several of the tunnels between these mines are linked, which sometimes may pose a problem for exact location details of specimens.

Nice representative specimen with a decent lustrous white Harmotome crystal to 9mm sitting on the matrix.
These specimens getting more difficult to get now.

# BS10:- Mimetite var Campyllite - Dry Gill Mine, Caldbeck Fells, Cumbria Miniature : 3.6 x 5.5 x 3.0 cms - 57g $35.00

 |
Classic specimen of this variety of Mimetite. Orangey brown barrel -shaped lustrous crystals, over white blades of Barite, contrasting nicely against the black manganese oxide deposit on the quartzite matrix. This material becoming increasingly more difficult to get hold of these days.

#Btb84 :Allophane - New East Wheal Russell, Tavistock Hamlets, Devon Cabinet: 8.5 x 6.6 x 6.5 cms - 274gms $45.00

 |
Excellent example of this amorphous Hydrous silicate of Aluminium. Botryoidal, resinous blue areas of this rare mineral, are clearly visible over the host matrix.

#Btb33 : Native Copper - New Cliffe Hill Quarry, Stanton Under Bardon, Leicestershire small miniature: 3 x 2.4 x 2.7cms : 60g $42.00
A nice small chunk of hackly Native Copper. Lots of super red Cuprite crystals on this one. Great under magnification.
Excellent sample of British Copper, from a small lode in the upper bench of the quarry, that sadly was only viable for a short time and is no longer there. This piece collected mid 1990's. New Cliffe Hill Quarry will cease operating within a year (closure due 2006/7) as work begins on re- excavating the original old quarry workings for Granite (aggregate). A long awaited article describing the Copper lode and rare secondary mineralisation has now been published in the UK Journal of Mines & Minerals (No. 26). Material from the featured mineralisation is extremely limited as few collectors had access to it.
